Altaf Ahmed Shaikh ((シンド語:الطاف احمد شيخ)) is a retired Marine Engineer and a renowned Sindhi scholar, professor, and travel writer from Pakistan. He is the associate professor of Naval engineering and Marine engineering at Pakistan Naval Academy. His first book on travel was ''Munhnjo Saagar Munhnjo Sahil'', which was published in 1971, and won the Pakistan Writers Guild Award. He was also awarded Tamgha-e-Imtiaz on 23 March 2011, by the Governor of Sindh Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan on behalf of President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari, for his contributions in Sindhi and Urdu Literature. ==Biography== Shaikh was born in the house of Gul Muhammad Shaikh on 14 November 1944 in New Hala District, Hyderabad (now Matiari District). Shaikh got his early education from Hala, then from Cadet College Petaro,〔 and studied marine engineering at Pakistan Marine Academy now renamed as Bangladesh Marine Academy Chittagong, Bangladesh. He was qualified as a naval engineer, and taught in Malaysia as a trainer. Shaikh started writing in the age of 18, in Chittagong. His first story book was ''Anamika'' (the Bengali word for "unknown"). He then moved to Malmö, Sweden where he attended World Maritime University; and received his MSc. in Marine Engineering from Maritime Safety Administration School of Engineering. He also received the "First Class Engineer Certificate" of Competency for sailing as Chief Engineer on Foreign Going Vessels. He then moved to London where he passed the A.M.I.E (Mechanical Engineering) and earned an engineer's license at the Institute of Engineers, London.
